Work at the Galleries!
Have you been awarded work-study through the college? Are you interested in artwork and want a relaxing environment to learn work skills while being able to complete your studies? We've got the perfect job for you! The Galleries at CCBC Catonsville and Essex are looking for work-study students to be Gallery Monitors.
Tasks and Opportunities
The majority of the job is sitting at the Gallery desk and keeping an eye on the work to make sure that all the art is safe. You'll also keep track of the visitors and welcome them into the gallery.
Visitors will sometimes look to you for answers about the exhibit. It is your responsibility to be able to answer in a knowledgeable fashion about the current artwork displayed, who the artists are, and what the exhibit is about.
If there is a reception or event for the exhibition coming up, you should mention it to the visitors and invite them to the events. Be sure to tell them about the Galleries website and offer any flyers that we have available at the time.
This is not a requirement, but we encourage all our work study students to take social media pictures and send them to use to post on our media pages.
We encourage all work-study students to bring their homework with them and work on it at the desk when there aren't visitors in the gallery. This means plenty of extra time to complete homework in a quiet space surrounded by interesting artwork.
Keep it Clean
We want to make sure the space is clean and presentable to visitors, so you'll be asked to lightly sweep the gallery and sometimes wipe down the windows. If interested, you can also help us during installation and learn how to patch and paint gallery walls.
If you wish to apply for a work study position at either the Catonsville or Essex campus, you must already be awarded Federal Work Study through the college. We cannot hire anyone outside of those approved for work study by the college.
