What have you been up to since leaving CCBC? Jobs, accomplishments you'd like to share, moving, etc.
Since leaving CCBC, I have been reemployed briefly, one year, as an educator with the Baltimore City Public School System. After that experience, I enrolled in the Maryland Institute College of Art to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. My studies at MICA will be completed 2020.
What art projects are you currently working on and how does it compare to your work at CCBC?
Currently, I am working on a series of paintings entitled reflection. Reflection is regarded as the images mirrored on water, glass or shiny surfaces, images represented in society, but also what one perceives in his/her mind.
What’s your current art process like? How does it compare to when you were at CCBC?
Currently, I favor painting on canvas using oil as the main medium. Periodically, I include fabric and yarn in my paintings. Sometimes I work from photos as references, but I feel so inspired and enthused when creating abstract art consisting of various geometric forms. Another medium with which I like to work is clay, throwing a vessel on the wheel or hand building one using coils.
How do you see your work growing in the future?
Oh my! That is an exciting question that allows my mind to explode with so many exciting pathways. In the future, I plan to explore and increase my usage of mixed media in my paintings, collage more artwork to be inclusive of three- and two-dimensional forms, and explore creating more ceramic and sculptural forms. It is a journey I have embarked and continue with enthusiasm.
If you had to give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Previously, I went to school to become an educator, become employable. I would tell my younger self to pursue your passion. Everything else will follow.
